The Korean War Veterans Memorial Foundation, Inc., is a non-profit, tax exempt foundation chartered in the District of Columbia as a 501. C. 3. Foundation. Donations made to the Foundation are justified as a tax deduction by the donor.

All monies donated are placed in escrow in the KWVMFnd Memorial Maintenance Endowment Fund (KWVMMEF). Only earned interest from this fund may be used to provide specific grants to the National Park Service (NPS) for needed maintenance, repair, restoration etc., of the Korean War Veterans Memorial and only if the NPS lacks necessary funds for such. On the KWVMFnd fiscal year basis, excess earned interest will be added to the principal of the KWVMMEF.

The goal of the KWVMMF is to raise $5 million for the principal of the Fund. The interest earned thereby will be adequate to supplement NPS funds when the Budget/Appropriations actions of the Congress cut NPS annual budget requests. In the event of need for funds for major repairs and the NPS cannot secure such from Congress or public subscription, the KWVMFnd Board of Directors may authorize that 1/4 of the then available principal of the KWVMMEF be used to prevent further deterioration and repair to the extent possible with such funds.
